The ANGEL Network and CONECKT do Diet and Donate

At a meeting with Glynne and Sharon of Angel Network Naomi mentioned one of the unique C.O.N.E.C.K.T fund raising initiatives to lose weight for charity. This involves people pledging to see if the dietees reach their goal , Glynn and Sharon grabbed the opportunity to shed a few kgs and do good while feeling good. In order to motivate them C.O.N.E.C.K.T sent motivational message and videos from the beneficiaries, Lefika La Phodiso, Autism SA, Forest Town School and the Siyathanda Stmulation Centre. CONECKT and Unlimited Ideas: Protective shields

Marcel from Unlimited Ideas has been a longstanding C.O.N.E.C.K.T dot and has donated arts and crafts materials to many organisations. He called Naomi asking if she knows anyone with elastic to make protective shields frontline healthcare workers. He mentioned a large grocery chain was unable to sell the elastic they needed due to restrictions on the sale of non-essential products. Viola, Naomi had already made a conecktion which made it possible to secure the necessary elastics. In the spirit of  C.O.N.E.C.K.T Marcel personally donated protective shields to Sandringham Gardens and the Sandringham Police Station.

CONECKT supporting and being supported by MENTAL CENTRAL

Another Facebook rendezvous led to a personal conecktion with a group of people struggling with mental health issues during the lockdown. A WhatsApp group was formed and every day members of the group coneckt with one another and provide support and companionship. One of the members on the group mentioned her daughter was having her sixth birthday and she could not buy her a present. CONECKT-ing GAUTENG TOGETHER

While perusing Facebook for opportunities Naomi came across actuary Nadia de Lange’s Facebook page Jozi Together. Nadia is an expat living in Switzerland and Naomi offered to help in any way possible. This started anther conecktion with other people interested in assisting during the Coronavirus crisis. The aim was to simulate the Cape Town CAN  initiative in Gauteng. Naomi called Jarred Rousseau from Cape Town Together to find out the best practice for launching such a project. A chance meeting at a networking event led a partnership between C.O.N.E.C.K.T and Nosh Food Food Rescue. Naomi met with Hanneke van der Linde and we were invited to join a fund raising event where C.O.N.E.C.K.T provided the decor and the entertainment. This proved to be yet another epic networking event.

CONECKT helping the National Development Agency (NDA)

In a first for South Africa staff members from the Youth Employment Service (YES4YOUTH) placed at C.O.N.E.C.K.T were deployed to assist the NDA the Department of Social Development and SA Social Security Agency to distribute food parcels and other necessities to people living with disabilities and the aged in communities.

C.O.N.E.C.K.T comfort packs for survivors of sexual abuse

One of the first projects we became involved in was the packing and distribution of comfort packs for survivors of sexual abuse. C.O.N.E.C.K.T bought hygiene products and packed 500 comfort packs for The Angel Network and we distributed these to Teddy Bear Clinic the Women, Men Against Child Abuse. This project created temporary employment for several people and will in future be done through protected employment workshops. As with all the projects  C.O.N.E.C.K.T has been involved in there were positive spin offs  such as connecting with Alta McMaster of the Epic Foundation.
